Friendly Discussion: About Alternatives To Violence (AVP) Training in Central Colorado
Norma Cady will tell about her recent work to introduce Alternatives to Violence workshops into Colorado’s Buena Vista Correctional Facility. The Alternatives to Violence Project (AVP) provides 2-3 day workshops empowering people to lead nonviolent lives. The Buena Vista project is focused on building teams of trained workshop facilitators within the correctional facility.
Beginning in a NY prison in 1975, the AVP now conducts training in prisons, schools and communities throughout the US and in more than 50 countries. A key element of AVP is pre-emptive conflict resolution by creatively transforming unhealthy relationships, building on everyday experiences to develop skills for dealing with violence and conflict.
Norma will offer a participatory, role-playing AVP exercise in discovering the power to transform our behaviors. She will also describe her experiences in the Correctional facility project. For more information, go to http://durangoquakers.org.
Because this presentation will be longer than usual, a light lunch will be available prior to start of Friendly Discussion.
