Please reserve March 29th on your calendar to hear Pat Kutzner speak during our second hour (11:30 am) about the progress that's been made at the Star Lake Chapter in Torreon, NM, on the Navajo Nation.

Star Lake is one of the most economically depressed chapters on the Reservation.  Pat has spent about 15 years there, teaching basic business and accounting classes and organizing several fund-raising activities for the Chapter.

Many of you know about and have donated to the Torreon Community Thrift Store; supporting that activity is mainly how Durango Friends have been involved.  Other activities include the Eastern Navajo Arts and Crafts Festival and the Youth Watershed Restoration Project.  All of these activities are now organized under the umbrella organization Torreon Community Alliance.

This kind of work - teaching basic business, grant writing, organizing and leadership skills, as well as working through the layers of bureaucracy and personalities - is very hard work and Pat has been tenacious and diligent in her efforts.  She recently turned 85 years old and is retiring.  Let's give her a hearty send-off and thank her for her hard work.

(A light lunch will be provided.)
